EVICTION FAQS
Q: What can the landlord do if the tenant doesn't move after the lease expires?
A: It depends on the rent regulatory status of the building. Contact the office to determine what steps are necessary in your particular case.
Q: What happens once we get to Court?
A: There is a procedure that must be followed and George L. Karavias knows each one thoroughly. For a Landlord to legally either force a tenant to pay or be evicted a final judgment must be entered against the tenant and a warrant of eviction must issue. There are impediments to securing a final judgment and warrant, and a savvy tenant can delay the eviction proceeding. George L. Karavias has the ability to minimize delays as much as possible in order to reach the objective rapidly.
Q: How long does a Court Case take?
A: It is difficult to predict the length of any Court case. A case can come to a quick conclusion if the tenant pays or moves soon after the proceeding is commenced. Other cases can take months from start to finish. It depends on numerous factors including the County where the Case will be heard, the Judge that is assigned to the case, the experience of the lawyer, etc. One thing that an individual can do is to retain an experienced attorney to expedite the proceeding as much as possible. A primary complaint of Landlords is that when tenants don’t pay the rent arrears, it does not absolve the Landlord of the duty to pay the mortgage or the heating bill. George L. Karavias has the know-how to make the process as seamless as can be.
